Trinity Lutheran Church near Cadillac

A small country church south of Cadillac,
Saskatchewan where a wedding had taken
place quite recently.

This building had formerly been the Fairy
Lake School that had closed in 1953. After
that time it was moved to the former Little
Six schoolyard, a school which had been
struck by lightning and burned to the
ground, and became Trinity Lutheran
Church.

Resurrection and rebirth!

Photographed on September 30, 2017.

Strange Light

Driving home from the Cypress Hills at
dusk today I encountered a strange light to
the west.  Hunters with powerful halogen
lights?  The second coming?  Crashed
spaceship?

You just never know.  In any event...
looks pretty cool!

Piapot Guesthouse and Saloon

Not so long ago I can remember stopping
here for a meal and/or a beer.  Now it's
only open for off sales.

Gotta love that wrap-around balcony and
decorative tin siding...that sign too.

NWMP Cemetery at Fort Walsh

The North West Mounted Police Cemetery
at Fort Walsh is about forty-five minutes
southwest of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.

The fort was in use from 1875 to 1883
during which time several police officers
lost their lives and were buried in this
cemetery.  In later years permission for
civilians to be buried here was granted.

Some photos and information of the
equally appealing Fort Walsh Civilian
Cemetery can be seen here:

Nemiskam Consolidated School

The school districts of Nemiskam, Intervale
and South Nemiskam joined together to build
Nemiskam Consolidated School No.27 in
1916.  This new school served the community
until 1941 when it was permanently closed.
It's now used as a granary.

This information was gleaned from
"Germans from Russia Heritage Society"
and "Pioneering with a Piece of Chalk."

You can bet that anyone armed with a camera
and passing through Nemiskam in the past
one hundred and one years has taken a photo
or two of the school.  Here are some that I
took one year ago today.

Nemiskam is one mile north of the Red Coat
Trail between Foremost and Etzikom, Alberta.

Zion Lutheran Church and Cemetery

Zion Lutheran Church and Cemetery are
near Horsham, Saskatchewan in the R.M.
of Enterprise.  According to the Germans
from Russia Heritage Society the church
and cemetery were active from 1919 to
1950.

The sunflower motif on the tall white
headstone symbolizes devotion to God.
It's a symbol that isn't as common as one
might imagine in a Christian cemetery.

The Find A Grave website has a photo
of the church before the sides bowed
outwards and the roof collapsed.
See it here:
