Saint John's Catholic Cemetery is located
southeast of Liebenthal, Saskatchewan in the
R.M. of Happyland. It was established in
1918 and is also known as Saint Johann's
Catholic Cemetery, Johnsburro Cemetery and
Johansburg Cemetery. It is well maintained
and the mailbox just inside the gate contains a
guest registry. There is also another mailbox
on the front of the miniature church but there
was nothing inside.
As is with most of these small rural
cemeteries there is little or no information
available online. That said, there is an older
photograph of this cemetery on the Find A
Grave website showing it with woven wire
fencing. You can see that photo here:
Saint John's Catholic Cemetery
The wire fence has now been replaced with
steel post and chain fencing with an
overhead steel entrance gate. A note
of interest...Just as I was driving away I
noticed some rolls of old wire fencing in a
grove of trees directly south of the cemetery.
Maybe, maybe not originally from the
cemetery. I took a photo anyway and it is
the last one in this set.
Photographed on July 31, 2017.
