Sacred Heart Cemetery 1913-1940

This little cemetery is south of Bow Island in the County
of Forty Mile No.8, Alberta.

A memorial monument listing the names of those buried
here is situated on the eastern side of the cemetery and
states: "Here Lies Children of Pioneers."  Only three of
the eight graves have identifying headstones, the
remaining five are marked with white painted
steel crosses.

When I stopped here about three months ago the
crucifix was absent from the cemetery.  I believe the
wooden cross had rotted as it has now been replaced
with a new one.  The new cross is simpler than the old
one but it was good to see it standing high once again.

Photos of the previous wooden cross can be found here:

During both visits I was expecting this little cemetery
to be an especially sad and lonely place as only children
are buried here but it's neither sad nor lonely.
It's just very silent and peaceful.
