Golden Prairie United Church

This church is in Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan, a village
in the R.M. of Big Stick.  It is mostly hidden behind a dense
hedge with mature trees scattered about the property.

Services were conducted here from 1929 to 1975 by student
ministers sent from the east by the United Church of Canada.
They would live in the church manse and also provide
church services to neighbouring towns.

For further information about the town and church:
"Golden Prairie" is a multimedia ebook that includes
photographs, written information and audio comments
about the town.  It is authored by Jerome Martin and is
available at no cost as a pdf download.  Included in the book
are historical photographs of the Golden Prairie United Church
dating back to 1955.  Download here:

  1. I suppose the time of year doesn't help but that poor church just looks sad. It must be mostly hidden by the trees in the summer.

    1. Sad it is, Jenn. I hope to see in again this summer and I'll post a photo or two.

  2. The birds on the sign was a neat catch. I know it would be extra work, but I think some readers(well, okay, me) would enjoy seeing a screen capture of a map which shows the location of the subject(school, cemetery, building)in relation to the surrounding area.
