New Home Cemetery

New Home Cemetery is located northeast of Manyberries, Alberta.
A granite memorial bearing the names of those buried here sits
in front of a weathered wooden cross.  The Sweet Grass Hills
of Montana can be seen to the south.

Remaining here are a few of the old glass grave markers
often found in pioneer cemeteries.  More often than not the glass
is cracked or broken, as is shown in the fifth photograph.
It was a rare treat to see one in such good condition
as in the sixth photograph.

It was bright and sunny yet crisp and cool during
my short visit here.  The frost covering the ground
seemed to accentuate the peacefulness of the spot.

Photographed on November 30, 2016.

  1. Glass grave markers! Interesting! I haven't explored many cemeteries, so that's something new to me.

    1. Thanks for the comment, Jenn. The outer edges of the glass is sculpted and the background is mirrored. They can be quite dazzling in the bright sunlight.
