East of Buffalo Trail and southwest of Schuler, Alberta
is Congregational Matthäus Cemetery; the name of which is
often anglicized as Congregational Matthias Cemetery.
About forty burials took place here between 1910 and 1937.
Three of the four remaining grave markers were visible
during this visit, the fourth being lost in the long
untended grass that fills the cemetery.
The air was damp and cold, crisp and clean and very
still; this along with the blanket of frost gave
the impression that time was standing still.
There is no roadside sign to indicate the presence of
this pioneer cemetery.
