This abandoned house sits about a quarter of a mile
west of the Whitla Cemetery. Permission to access the
site for a closer look had been previously granted and
today was the day. Although I had talked to several
people in the area, no one seemed to have any
information about the house.
From a distance it appeared to be sitting in the middle
of a stubble field but as I was nearing the house, it
was apparent that it was sitting in a little coulee of
pastureland surrounded by farm land. There were
remnants of a barbed wire fence, long dead trees, the
rotting wooden floor of another building and a granery.
The house sits on a broken foundation and I wouldn't be
surprised if it had been moved here from it's original
location. That western false front is an interesting
feature. It had possibly been a store in a former life
but I think its last life was as a home.
